UNIT 2

L/O: Explore the work of recognised graphic designers.

Quentin's work looks very hand drawn and scruffy and is not done to look very realistic. And he is most famous for his illustrations in Roald Dahls children's book.

I don't think I should have coloured it in that much and I think it ruins the work.

Barnes' work is very random and shape based but also paints a picture e.g. the one above this is clearly someone with eyes holding there hands around their eyes. And she is most famous for taking inspiration from contemporary fashion, mid-century design and every facet of mythological narrative and implementing it into her work.

L/O: Explore the work of recognized graphic designers.

Robert Sabuda uses various different papers/cards to create realistic children's pop up books of many different stories including wonderful wizard of oz and Alice in wonderland. He also adds many colours to catch the eyes of the buys, young children.

In this piece of work he adds a lot of detail and colour to attract people to his work. He also uses composition in his work as he creates pop up book which takes precision.

I DO NOT OWN ANY COLORED PENCILS/PENS ECT...

In comparison to Robert Sabuda mine looks awful, but the cuts and folded turned out very clean and look nice. Could have been much better if I was more experienced and knew how to make something big and outstanding but I cannot. Also I would have been much better with colour and some sort of story/a reason for a specific character.

Christoph Niemann

Christoph is a graphic design artist who creates very simplistic drawings based on an item the will find and use in the illustration. For example, he will get a penny and use that penny coin as an ice cream. He will draw someone holding/licking an ice cream and the place the penny as the ice cream itself on top of the cone he drew and that'll be his piece. Another example of his work is when me drew a photographer and then put a camera where he would have drawn one. He also uses thick coloured pens to draw his art.

David Carson's work is a collage style of work. He will get newspaper tears and create a collage out of it. It will be very shape based and very colourful or black and white depending on whether he wants to make light piece or a darker piece. It will heavily use composition in his work making some words appear closer or further away.

Lesley Barnes

Lesley Barnes is a self taught illustrator, her illustrations are graphic, colourful, engaging and very shape based. She usually include mythological creatures in her work otherwise mostly just normal animals.
- She illustrates some of her favourite fashion pieces
- She's a fan of cats
-She was asked by Dark Hall Mansion to create a limited edition print for Lotte Reinger's animation masterpiece 'The Adventures of Prince Achmed'

I would describe her work as very different and eye catching, its not something you'd see everyday and it is very colourful to help make peoples eyes naturally drift towards it. She also makes her illustrations very strange to stand out against the usual art but also they still portray something and it isn't just a bunch of random lines and scribbles all over the page.

She will initially start with cut out coloured paper shapes and build up from there before eventually moving onto illustrator to finish it and get a final piece done.

She is most famous for her illustrations that take inspiration from contemporary fashion, mid-century design and every facet of mythological narrative.

L/O: explore the graphic styles of Saul Bass

Some characteristics of Saul bass' work is vibrant colours, but also minimal different colours on one piece, he will usually stick to one main colour, but will sometimes add other colors in small amounts. He will also add black Silhouette type pictures in the centre. I would describe his work as colourless but also colourful.

My finding nemo interpretation of Saul Bass's art styled work. I personally do not think it is too much similar to Saul Bass' work like the task first intended, but regardless it follows the colourful theme Saul bass produces and is also very bare which is also in the style of Saul

His graphic style is very line based and and focus a lot more on typography and the the placement of images and type rather than bright colors and in your face designs that really stand out.

Comments

  1. Jamie you have not completed all the tasks set. You should create your own illustration based on the work of QB. You have also jumped ahead with the work of Lesley Barnes.
